LANE COUNTY, Oregon - The Lane County Sheriff's Office has identified 40 year old Robert Gavin Bowers as a person of interest in yesterday's stabbing assault in the South Jetty area south of Florence. Bowers is likely homeless and most commonly travels by foot. Bowers could be armed and should not be approached.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to refrain from picking up hitchhikers and to report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Deputies and Troopers are currently searching the area of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area south of Florence for the suspect in a stabbing assault that occurred earlier this afternoon. The suspect was last seen on foot headed into the dunes from the Goose Pasture ATV staging area.

The suspect is described as a white male adult with long brown hair. He is believed to be approximately 30-40 years of age and stands about 5'08" to 6'00" tall. The suspect was last observed wearing a brown or black jacket.

If you observe the suspect, please dial 911 and do not approach him. Numerous police resources are on scene and actively searching the area.
