HILLSBORO, Oregon - A women reported to Hillsboro police that she believed a man had tried to lure her into his van as she was walking along 231st in Hillsboro on Friday.

She said that a white or silver van similar to a Ford Econoline was driven by a white adult man in his 40-50's. She said that as the van passed traveling in her direction, the driver turned onto Cherry Lane alongside her.

The driver called out "hey, little girl, can you come and help me calm my daughter down, she's crying".

The woman grew suspicious because the crying from the van sounded like a recording. She then told the driver there was church just up the road.

The driver got out of the van to insist on her help to calm the baby. By this time there were several other vehicles on the road so she flagged down a passing car.

The driver got back into the van and drove away.

Police have no additional description or information at this time.

Tigard Police said a similar incident occurred on Wednesday involved in a white van.

Hillsboro Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind parents the importance of speaking to their children regarding safety. Encourage your children to be aware of their surroundings, avoid being alone and know what to do if they are approached or become targets of unwanted contact. It is also important for adults to be aware of their surroundings and to practice good personal safety skills.
