A retired elementary school principal who's the subject of a sexual abuse lawsuit filed last year by a former student was arrested Thursday on suspicion of molesting multiple children.

Jeffrey Hays was indicted by a Clackamas County grand jury Monday. He's accused of six counts of first-degree sexual abuse and a single count of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration.

Hays was the principal of Deep Creek Elementary School in the Gresham-Barlow School District from 2005 to 2009. He became the executive director of the City View Charter School in Hillsboro in 2009 and is now retired, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

The agency said Hays' victims included four former students.
