ALBANY, Oregon - On Monday, April 27, 2020, at 3:07 p.m., Albany Police received a call from a distraught female indicating she was walking from house to house attempting to find a Sheriff in her neighborhood to kill. The incident occurred in the area of SW Marten Avenue and Chinook. The female was identified as 23-year old Micayla N. Martin of Albany. Martin told police dispatch that she was in front of a Sheriff Deputy's house and was going to kill him.
Albany Police confirmed Martin was in front of a Linn County Deputy's residence armed with a knife and wanted police to shoot her. Albany Police responded to the area and located Martin standing on the sidewalk holding a knife. Albany Police Officer Koddie Lowery spoke with Martin from a safe distance and attempted to get her help. Martin refused assistance and disregarded directives to drop the knife she was holding.
Martin reportedly charged Officer Kyle Libra from one-half block away while armed with the knife. Officers repeatedly ordered Martin to stop but she refused, continuing to run at Officer Libra with a knife. Officer Libra shot Martin with a less-lethal 40 mm impact weapon which caused Martin to stumble and fall within 10 feet of another Officer. Martin attempted to get up with the knife and was then tased by other officers, allowing officers to secure the knife and take custody of Martin.
Martin was taken to Samaritan Albany General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries relating to the incident and a mental health evaluation.
On April 28, 2020 Martin was taken to the Linn County Jail on the following charges:
