On Monday at approximately 8:15pm, Patrol deputies responded to a report of a boat sinking in the Columbia River, near the Glen Jackson Bridge. Deputies arrived a short time later and found one adult male and one adult female in the water near the North end of the bridge.

Deputies recovered both people from the water, and immediately began CPR on the female boater. Crews from Port of Portland Fire Department arrived quickly and assisted deputies in their life saving efforts.

The female victim was transported to Southwest Washington Medical Center via ambulance where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The male boater was taken to a Vancouver area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and is being interviewed by investigators. Neither of the boaters were wearing life vests at the time of the crash.

Members of the East County Vehicular Crash Team are on scene assisting in the investigation of this crash.

Preliminary information indicates the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck one of the pylons to the Glen Jackson Bridge. The boat immediately sank, and has not been recovered.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. The female victim's name was not be released pending identification and family notification.
