TURNER, Oregon - A vehicle stop led to the arrest of an Oregon man Monday who was found with more than 1,000 grams of cocaine.

Police say they arrested 27-year-old Winston McLeod, of Oregon, on Monday in Turner.

According to police, the incident with the suspect began around 11:45 a.m. after he was stopped by a trooper in the parking lot of B & A Variety in Turner.

Police say McLeod had cocaine in his jacket pocket. When he was told by a trooper that he was being arrested, McLeod ran away.

The trooper chased him and was able to take him into custody.

Police say they found 1,102 grams of cocaine and $1,446 in suspected drug proceeds in his car.

Mcleod was charged with three counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, each punishable by up to 30 years in prison. Police also charged him with refusing to submit to arrest and operating a motor vehicle without a license, both misdemeanours punishable by up to six months in jail. He also was charged with asset forfeiture.

He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail and bail was set at $25,000.
