YACHATS, Oregon – Two teenage boys drowned in the surf at Smelt Sands State Park. A rescue team recovered the body of 17-year-old Jack Harnsongkram Sunday morning. Harnsongkram was one of two Eugene teen boys drowned Saturday after they were swept into the Ocean at Smelt Sands State Park.

The boys had been part of a group of teens near the Adobe Resort. Three of the boys fell into the water in the afternoon. Surf was pretty rough say witnesses.

The body of 18-year-old Connor Gregory Ausland was recovered quickly but crews Saturday had not been able to find Harnsongkram.

A local resident saw Harnsongkram’s body on the rocks and the Yachats Fire Department recovered the body. Both boys were students at South Eugene High School.
