On August 2nd at approximately 2:30 PM Longview Fire and Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue (C2FR) were dispatched to a motorhome fire in the driveway of a home located at 862 Lone Oak Rd. Long Oak Road is located in the far northerly reaches of Longview up a steep winding road. As fire crews were responding they could see a plume of smoke on the hilltop visible from Ocean Beach Hwy.

Upon arrival Cowlitz Fire declared a working motorhome fire with threatened exposures including a detached garage, a home, and large cedar tree. With limited initial resources an exposure hose-line was deployed to keep the fire from spreading to these vulnerable exposures. As additional resources arrived efforts were placed in extinguishing the 2005 40' Monaco Coach style motorhome.

A total of ten firefighters from Longview and C2FR worked to protect the exposures and extinguish the fire, which did not damage the home nor garage, but did scorch the large cedar tree. The fire caused considerable damage to the motorhome, which is valued at $130,000.00. The homeowner told investigators he had just returned from a camping trip and was washing the coach when he noticed smoke, then fire erupt from the driver's side directly under the large cedar tree. The owner deployed a garden hose until firefighters arrived. Fire investigators believe the fire started at or near the motorhomes refrigerator unit.
