SEATTLE – Searchers in the rugged North Cascades have found a backpack belonging to the son of Hall of Fame boxing promoter Bob Arum, but they are still looking for the missing climber.

John Arum was reported missing Monday after failing to return from a weekend trip to climb Storm King, an 8,500-foot peak about 70 miles northeast of Seattle.

North Cascades National Park spokeswoman Kerry Olson says the backpack belonging to Arum, a 49-year-old environmental lawyer and experienced climber, was found late Wednesday at the mountain's 7,300-foot level.

She says it appears the pack was left there intentionally, and that gear needed for climbing was missing from it. Climbers often lighten their loads before attempting a summit.

Twelve searchers are out looking for Arum on Thursday, aided by two helicopters.
